Apple pies are a wonderful, as are toasties. Today we combine the two. I must admit, I was surprised how good apple "pie" toasties taste, especially when served with ice cream.
Toastie apple pies remind me of McDonald’s apple pies. They are sweet, crunchy on the outside, gooey on the inside, and most importantly, if you are not patient enough to let it cool down, you could easily loose a few layers of skin from the inside of your mouth!
Apple Pie
Makes: 2 toasties
Ingredients:
- 1 apple
- 1 tbsp. brown sugar (or to taste)
- ½ tsp. cinnamon (or to taste)
- 1 tbsp. water
- 4 slices of white bread
- butter
Method:
1 diced apple, 1 tbsp. brown sugar, ½ tsp. cinnamon |
- Butter each of the four slices of bread and remove the crusts.
- Peal the apple using a vegetable peeler. Discard peel.
- Dice the apple finely. The smaller the pieces, the quicker they will cook.
- Add the apple, brown sugar, cinnamon and water to a microwave proof bowl. Cover and cook on high for 2 minutes.
- Preheat the toastie maker.
- Place one slice of bread, butter side down, onto the bottom grill plate.
- Spoon half of the apple mixture onto the centre of the bread.
- Place the top piece of bread onto the mixture, butter side up.
- Repeat steps 6 to 8 for the other grill plate.
- Gently close the lid and allow to toast for approximately 3 minutes, or until the bread has browned sufficiently.
- Serve with ice cream
Variations:
- Add ¼ cup of sultanas.
- Replace bread with pre-rolled puff pastry.
Notes:
- I tend to make these in a jaffle maker, so that they are more pie like.
